October 28th, 2006-
Wow... The end of the season has finally approached and what a spectacular year that the Southern Outlaw
Winged 600's had in the 2006 race season. First off... On behalf of the Southern Outlaw Winged 600's allow me to congratulate
our champion of the 2006 race season, Mr. Rusty Pipes.. Great job Rusty.
Secondly, a very big thanks goes out to
a man who knows the silent appreciation all too well on taking on a very hard and thankless job of heading our organization,
Mr. Lee Knowles. Without leadership in the forefront these races could never take place. An extension to this appreciation
would include Terry Monroe for his returning service as heading our group once more in the 2007 race season. Other acknowledgements
that go without saying all due respect and admiration goes out to Mr. Andy Reeves, Mr. Rusty Pipes and Kasey Gardner and everyone
on the sidelines that stepped in to fill empty positions where needed. Thanks to you. Allot went on this season and to record.. No protests were filed in this year... Lets
everyone know what a big family we have grown to become. When I use the term "family", that is exactly what we all
are. There aren’t days that go by that we don’t think of one another and help each other out outside of racing.
In the off season allot of us will be found competing in some sort of sport or whatever we can find to compete with... With
people like us... We'll compete to just see who can get to the mailbox first.. It's always a race. You know when the
people you race with are in your life when you sometimes remember the talks, practical jokes, tom foolery and laughs before
the races as much as the race it self... Ahhh ”The calm before the storm".
We saw a few old but not
so old faces returning with us this year to do well such as James Fairfield, Brad Gentry and Channin Tankersley. There were
allot of new faces and up in coming superstars that will definatley shine in seasons to come such as what we saw with Justin
Taylor for example. Watch out for this guy next year... Do I hear the next Channin Tankersley?
One guy that
really shined out in my mind is Lee Knowles. When he was on.. He was wicked fast. Knowles won 5 "A" main feature
races this year... Don’t worry, I plan on bringing him a hearty "weight gaining" cooked meal every night till
next season..
Mother Nature wasn’t as prevailing as she had been in years past.. Sure she struck us a few
times.. Almost literally on that last one as we all sat in the feature line up in Willis, TX.. She sent down a bolt of lightning
to take out the tower close to where we were parked.. And then the bottom fell out.
There was allot of great racing
action and with no real bad wrecks... And through it all... The fans loved us more than ever..(Even though they love the wrecks)
we continued to set track speed and lap time records. All and all without a doubt racing style puts the fans on their feet
and in the pits from the general admission to buy our shirts as we proudly signed them and passed out freebee Frisbees. But,
where would we all be without our fans??? One thing for sure.. Our Saturdays would be much less exciting.. A very special
thank you goes out to all our fans for making it all possible.
And a respectful thanks goes out to all our racers
in the 2006 season. Thank you, Tony Reeves 2006
